I have used my latest digital painting Rapunzel to demonstrate painting the facial features and background.
Additionally I have added a realistic imaginative example of painting features.

This is SO useful...thanks so much for making this!!!!  I just downloaded GIMP recently, had no idea how to actually paint nice pictures without manipulating a photo, until I saw this...it all makes sense now!  And your artwork is excellent too, just like the Disney movies yet with an added artistic style, I can see why this got a DD!  Thanks again! :happybounce:

Thought I should drop by and say how much this tutorial helped me learn the basics of digital painting! Were it not for your efforts I would still be flopping around like a fish out of water trying to figure out just where to start and what to do:) Blending my colors together smoothly was where I was having the most trouble, but tis trouble to me no longer.

Best of all you are a GIMPer just like me! Glad to have someone who speaks the same language:)

Keep up the great work!

Amazing tutorial! One of my biggest dreams is to learn how to make digital paintings! Traditional drawings are nice as well, but I'd love to learn something new. :)

So I tried it, but, Jesus, my firts try looked awful... o.O xD But I don't give up! I'll try it again and again! xD

I've been using Gimp for more than five years but thanks to your tutorial I discovered new options! :O :D Thanks again!

I was in the same boat, trust me, you just have to jump and and refrain yourself from comparing yourself to people you consider "better" than you, because you're capable of anything you dream, you just have to take every step that everyone else had to take too. <3

Hey! can I ask a few questions? :)

How long does it usually take you to make your works of art?
And it must be a horror story looking at your layers menu :) how many layers do you average at? and do people still name each and every layer? haha

THANKS! and you are one heck of a talented artist.

Hi there!

Sure can!

It really depends on what type of drawing Im doing, I can do quick sketches within an hour. On average I might spend 8-10 hours on a big painting. And even more if it's really involved.
I also don't work with layers often, I just paint straight on, more true to the form of painting. If I do though I might have 4 or 5 layers. :)
And sometimes I name them, but most of the time I don't. However, I would highly recommend it. :)

Cheers my friend!
